Theater With Origami Roof – Bengt Sjöström Starlight By Studio Gang Architects
Bengt Sjöström Starlight Theater is a theater that has the origami-like roof that can be opened and closed for the performing arts. Designed for Rock Valley College. Origami roof at this theater can work against bad weather with the roof closed, or doing outdoor activities can be maintained by opening the roof, and when the roof will open like flower petals in the shape of a helical sequence, each overlapping petals neighbors roof.
Theater development process consists of three stages: first, the expanded seating bowl that seats 1100, ticket building, toilet rooms, landscape sculpted and illuminated by the porch. In the second phase, copper-clad proscenium, rigging and 30 ‘x 60 translucent doors’ phase shift, and the third stage is in terms of timber and steel roof structure. Theater space centered vertical axis to the sky and there is an observatory for the stars through the roof of the open kinetic.
